Changes in Isolation and Testing Requirements for Children under 12 years

We are aware that the recent announcement in relation to changes in the isolation and testing requirements for children under 12 years has had impacts on many of our members.

The removal of the isolation requirements for close contacts from Monday next, September 27th, is particularly worrying for children who may be medically vulnerable. In addition, it has been brought to our attention that children with Down syndrome are being sent home from school, due to presenting with symptoms mirroring those of Covid-19, but that are essentially chronic conditions associated with Down syndrome e.g. runny nose, cough etc..

We are continuing our engagement with the Department of Education on these issues to ensure that the needs of all children with Down syndrome are considered, and will update you on downsyndrome.ie and over DSI social media as and when we have any new information.
