Charity of the year: Woodies Heroes 2018
We were thrilled to have been chosen by Woodies staff throughout Ireland as one of the four children’s charities to benefit from the Woodie’s Heroes 2018 fundraising campaign. The Woodie’s teams fundraised in all 35 Woodie’s stores around the country from Mon 23rd July to Sunday 19th August through an array of activities in and out of the work place, including a gruelling 1,600km cycle across the country aiming for miles of smiles!
As part of the campaign, Irish band Wild Youth recorded the charity single My Hero along with the Woodie’s Heroes singers and members of the four charities took part along with two of our junior members, Cathy May Foote and Lorna Dolan (pictured on the cover of the single. The single can still be downloaded here for just €1 and you can watch the video to the single below.
The funds raised from this year’s Woodies Heroes campaign will go towards our educational support services for children with Down syndrome at both primary and secondary level. Our Woodie’s Heroes ambassador is Mia Raftery, who is 8 years old and attends main stream school, where she is doing really well as an active and popular class participant. She is very sociable and goes to the cinema with her friends and arranges lots of play dates. Meet Mia in the video below.
