Conor Byrne – You Will Achieve

We love hearing from our Ability Programme graduates and sharing a glimpse into their working lives – Like Conor Byrne’s Ability story.

Conor has been working at Swan Leisure, Rathmines since July 2018, as a Leisure Centre Assistant he makes sure to keep the pool and gym area’s clean for members along with assisting other staff with daily duties.  As part of the team at Swan Leisure Centre, Conor brings his enthusiasm and drive every day to work which is felt by all who work with and meet him.

We spoke with Operations Manager – Gregg Gannon about Conor’s role at the Leisure centre, he stated that:

“Conor is an inspiration to both members and guests. He is a fulfilment of our philosophy at Swan Leisure of inclusion and breaking down barriers to participation”.

Truly Conor makes a big difference to his workplace – we asked him if he had anything he’d like to say about his role, he said;

“I love the company and having work buddies to chat to.  Everyone in the swan centre is nice and friendly and they look out for me.  I think I do a very good job – I keep the pool deck cleaned and I clean the gym.  I would advise someone with Down syndrome to get a job because you will learn new skills and responsibilities and you will achieve.”

Many thanks to Swan Leisure Centre for taking part in our Ability Programme and to Conor for chatting with us and for the wonderful photos of his workday.
