Disability Rights Now protest outside Dail Eireann on Thursday, January 19th

People Before Profit’s campaign group Disability Rights Now is organising a protest outside Dail Eireann this Thursday (January 19th) to highlight the delay in Ireland ratifying the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).

This protest on Kildare Street in Dublin 2 will be taking place between 12.00pm and 3.00pm.

It is expected that a number of TDs will be making an appearance, including representatives of People Before Profit, Social Democrats and Fianna Fáil.

Ten years after it was adopted by the United Nations (UN), Ireland still hasn’t ratified the CRPD.

The Government’s failure to ratify means people with disabilities do not have the right to choose where to live, the right to employment, the right to engage in a sexual relationship. This means one in seven of us are continuing to live with discrimination.
