Down Syndrome Ireland announced as awardee of National Pyjama Day Fund 2018

We are delighted to be chosen as one of the six recipients of the Early Childhood Ireland Pyjama Day Fund for 2018!

This fund will enable us to develop a comprehensive range of supports for new parents of children with Down syndrome over the coming year.

This will include:

  • The re-development and implementation of the Parent Link service. Parent Link is a volunteer support and information service for new parents. This will include training for Parent Link volunteers.
  • Subsidised access to a local counsellor for new parents of children with Down syndrome.
  •  The development of information and resources for families, including a short leaflet for new families, and updating our new parents’ booklet.
  • The development of information and resources for professionals who are involved in informing families that their child has Down syndrome. This will include the development of a short video which will include parents talking about their experience of hearing that their child has Down syndrome. We will also expand on our links with training colleges and maternity hospitals.

A total of six charities were selected to receive a portion of the funds raised on National Pyjama Day. The annual event, now in its fifteenth year, sees children sponsored to wear their pyjamas into crèche and preschool to raise money for children’s causes.

This year, 60,000 children from 1,300 crèches and preschools nationwide signed up for the event, which raised almost €280,000.

A huge thank you to Early Childhood Ireland for their continued support for our early years’ initiatives!
