Down Syndrome Ireland one day conference on behaviour
Co Wexford Education Centre, Enniscorthy, Wexford.

This conference will cover common behavioural issues in school age children and teenagers with Down syndrome. We welcome parents, class teachers, resource teachers, SNAs, and anyone else who is part of the team supporting students with Down syndrome at Primary or Post Primary Level.
This one day conference will be presented by:
Aoife Gaffney, Employment and Projects Officer.
Aoife has a background in early childhood studies, and a masters in behaviour analysis. Before taking up her role with Down syndrome Ireland, Aoife worked for over 10 years with children and teenagers who have behavioural issues, and she has previously delivered behaviour workshops focusing on Down syndrome with the Waterford branch.
Fidelma Brady, Education Officer.
Fidelma is a former primary school teacher and teaching principal. She has many years of practical experience in managing behavioural issues in mainstream classroom settings, and is currently completing a doctorate focusing on inclusive education of students with Down syndrome.
Nicola Hart, Director Of Member Services.
Nicola has a background in Speech and Language Therapy, and has many years of experience in working with children and adults with Down syndrome. She will focus on the developmental language disorder associated with Down syndrome and its impact on behaviour.
Sessions during the day will cover:
- Common behavioral issues in school age children who have Down syndrome
- Functions of behaviour
- Factors which influence behaviour
- Supporting positive behaviour
The afternoon session will be broken down into 3 breakout session that will cover the following topics.
- Managing puberty
- Managing behaviour in the mainstream classroom
- Understanding and managing behaviour related to communication difficulties
