Regional Resource Officer - Kerry branch

Eithne Garvey is Resource Officer for the Down Syndrome Ireland, Kerry (DSK) branch and works part-time.
Eithne’s work in adult education as an IT tutor was the stepping stone towards her work in community development. She has been working in Community Development in Kerry now for the last ten years focusing in the areas of social inclusion, advocacy and education.
DSI’s Kerry branch has over 217 members spread throughout the county and almost 200 are under 40 years old. This has determined the work that Eithne is presently focusing on such as; Individualised Funding/Supports, organizing information sessions on Early Intervention supports, advocating on behalf of our members or just being a support through rough times, co-ordinating the training and employment initiative of the branch, gathering resources and information in areas as diverse as education to health. Respite is greatly lacking in Kerry and Eithne is working on accessing this in other ways one of which is via the National Home Sharing and Short Breaks network and researching tenancy agreements on behalf of our members. A huge part of this role is to share the information resources gathered both with our members and with other staff in DSI and most especially with my fellow Resource Officers.
Eithne is forging links with other agencies, professionals and service providers while working with the incredibly capable National Member Support Team.
Eithne can be contacted at eithne@downsyndrome.ie or 0872691198.
