We had a lovely time meeting Sinead Fidgeon in Cavan from the wonderful The Perfect Gift. Sinead has been brightening the lives of parents of newborns with Down syndrome by sending hampers of love to their home. We had a lovely time showing Sinead and her beautiful daughter Grace our ‘…more than medical’ booklets and helping out packing a basket or two!
Sinéad was inspired to set up her charity after welcoming her own daughter Grace into the world four years ago. Since then she has sent out hundreds of baskets to new parents around the country. Each basket is filled with books about raising children with Down syndrome, toys, clothes and candles.
Sinéad, who is a nurse, also includes a letter which she sends with every gift. ‘Each basket is individual so we write a letter to the mum to congratulate her on the birth of her beautiful, perfect child and then we invite them to the online support group Down Right Perfect.’
