Amazing Izzy Stuns with Somewhere Only We Know
Down Syndrome Ireland member shares beautiful voice with Keane cover
The beautiful rendition came about due to Izzy’s love of singing as well as the lack of access to speech and language therapy in her area.
“Isobelle has had no access to speech therapy in the past three years,” dad David explains. “It simply is not available where we live.”
“So, we thought, rather than just lying down and giving out about it, Michelle and I looked to her singing as the means to develop her speech. It helps her with word recognition and voice projection, her confidence and social skills.”
Isobelle, who is a Leitrim branch member, sings day and night, showing true dedication to her passion. She has a broad range of genres that she loves, with musicals being a favourite.
“Some evenings we play a game as a family called Guess The Song, where a bar or two of music is played and you must, well guess the song! It is truly outrageous how good Izzy is at this. Her ear is so sharp,” David explains.
Not one to excel in only one area, Izzy, 17, also loves theatre, acting, and dancing. She sometimes joins her local choir, has appeared in musicals and even tv adds. Next up, she hopes to do modelling.
David adds: “As parents of a child with different abilities, we try to use every avenue we can to progress our child’s dreams. She may have a long way to go yet as a singer but that’s not what it’s really about. It’s not perfect, no one is perfect, but no work of art is.”
Isobel has big dreams, and most importantly big talent to match. No doubt she will have an exciting future, and we’ll be hearing a lot more from her. As David puts it, “She has no interest in standing still with her life.”
