The Learning Profile of Children with Down Syndrome at Primary School – October 13th
This webinar will support teachers, parents, SNAs and other professionals working with children with Down syndrome at primary school. The Specific Learning Needs or Learning Profile of the child will be outlined, and the implications for learning will be discussed.
This webinar will be facilitated by Down Syndrome Ireland’s National Research and Support Specialist, Nicola Hart, and Head of Primary and Post Primary Education, Dr Fidelma Brady.

Parenting Through Puberty: Sexual Health Education for Parents of Young People with Additional Needs – November 11th & 25th
Puberty brings important changes in a young person’s body, emotions, relationships and growing independence. Knowing how and when to talk about sexuality, relationships, boundaries and safety can sometimes feel challenging. These practical two-hour webinars will explore how parents can support their young person’s sexual health, wellbeing and independence through three key strands.
We are delighted to welcome Dr Clara O’Byrne., PhD., M.Sc., M.Ed., M.Phil., B.Sc., B.A. Chartered Psychologist (Coaching & Education) of Mulberry Education & Psychology Services as our guest presenter for both webinars. Dr Clara is a Chartered Psychologist and Neurodiversity Advocate. A former special school teacher and NCSE advisor, she runs a private practice in West Cork. Dr Clara’s extensive training has focused on neuro-affirming practice, coaching psychology, brain/body connection, stress management and science of wellbeing. Dr Clara has a particular interest in working with neurodivergent individuals, parents, and teens.

This one-day online webinar for post-primary special education and mainstream teachers is a collaboration with Down Syndrome Ireland and the NCSE on supporting students with Down syndrome.

Dr Dennis McGuire Workshops for Families & Professionals – September 24th, 25th, 29th, 30th
Dr Dennis McGuire returns to Ireland this September to host a series of events with Down Syndrome Ireland in Sligo and Limerick for both families and professionals.
Parents workshops: These interactive workshops are suitable for parents/guardians of individuals aged 15 years and over, and will focus on the transition to adulthood and the unique social, emotional and practical challenges that arise during the teenage and adult years. Drawing on Dr McGuire’s extensive experience and the lived experiences of families, participants will explore practical strategies while learning from one another in a supportive environment.
Professional workshops: These practical professional development workshops are designed for those supporting adolescents and adults with Down syndrome across disability, health, education and community settings. Combining current best practice with decades of clinical experience, the session will help participants better understand the emotional, behavioural and cognitive profile associated with Down syndrome and provide practical approaches that can be applied immediately.
