Speech and language therapy is incredibly valuable for children and adults with Down syndrome, celebrating their unique strengths and supporting their growth in various areas.

Down Syndrome Ireland provides specialist Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) services for individuals with Down syndrome, supporting communication at every stage of life. Our aim is to help each person develop the communication skills they need to connect with others, express themselves, and take part fully in everyday life.

Our SLT services are currently available in Galway, Cork, Limerick, Tipperary, Kildare and Dublin, with outreach support in Kilkenny, Waterford, Laois and Leitrim through our Speech and Language Therapy Assistant (SLTA) service. We work closely with individuals and their families, as well as schools, health professionals and community supports, to make sure therapy is practical, meaningful and relevant to real life.

We believe that communication grows best when everyone works together. That’s why collaboration with families and key people in each person’s life is at the heart of our approach.

Through the Glór Initiative, we are working to bring Speech and Language Therapy to areas of the country where SLT services have not always been available. Our goal is to make sure that all individuals with Down syndrome, no matter where they live, have the opportunity to grow their communication skills and reach their full potential.
