The Leitrim branch of Down Syndrome Ireland is a friendly and active network and support group for the children/ young adults with Down syndrome, their parents and siblings. We aim to serve the needs of approximately 33 families across the county. The branch has been in existence since the 1990s and has a lot of experience and understanding of the issues facing people with Down syndrome in a rural setting. We are a welcoming group with a strong emphasis on positive peer to peer support. We aim to provide practical, fun and appropriate learning opportunities and skills for our membership, training for parents and care givers and provide a channel for the supports on offer from the National Office of Down Syndrome Ireland.
