Down Syndrome Ireland warmly welcomes Invisible Thread Films and RTÉ for highlighting the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act through the moving RTÉ Storyland short drama Grace, airing this Monday, 15th December at 9.30pm on RTÉ 2.

Written and directed by Anna Rodgers, produced by Nuala Carr with executive producer Zlata Filipovic (@invisiblethreadfilms), Grace explores love, consent, independence and the right to make your own decisions — issues that remain central to the lives of people with Down syndrome and intellectual disabilities in Ireland.

We also wish to warmly congratulate Fiadhnait Canning on an outstanding and deeply authentic performance as Grace. Her portrayal is powerful, nuanced and unforgettable. We welcome seeing members of Down Syndrome Ireland take part in the film, including Orla Casey, secretary of DSI’s National Advisory Council.

“Grace is a beautifully told and hugely important piece of storytelling. It challenges long-held assumptions and brings the Assisted Decision-Making legislation to life in a way that is both accessible and deeply human. Performances like Fiadhnait Canning’s remind us why representation, rights and real voices matter,” — Aidan Stacey, CEO, Down Syndrome Ireland

Down Syndrome Ireland applauds everyone involved for telling this story with such care, dignity and honesty, and for helping to move understanding, awareness and inclusion forward.

Grace airs on Monday December 15th on RTÉ2 at 9.30pm. The film is also available on the RTÉ player.
