Evie’s Story
Meet Evie

Evie is a super sassy, confident 8 year old, who loves to sing and dance. She’s extremely witty and makes her family laugh every single day. Evie has two younger sisters who adore her and she loves spending time with her family.
Evie’s mother, Melissah, describes finding out about Evie’s diagnosis;
‘We had a post-natal Down syndrome diagnosis; we didn’t find out until the day after Evie’s birth. I was 25 years old when I had Evie and knew very little about Down syndrome. Actually, what I believed Down syndrome to be was completely different to how it actually is. Evie changed not only mine but my whole family’s perception so much and has shown us a completely different side to the world we once knew nothing about, and we are forever grateful for our Evie girl’.
Help from Down Syndrome Ireland
Melissah describes how Down Syndrome Ireland and her local branch were a huge help in the early years of Evie’s life, ‘I was young and very clueless to this whole new world, we used to attend our local DSI Kildare branch for their early development classes and it was a fantastic way to meet other mams, I learned so much here and the ladies who ran the classes were so helpful’.
Evie continues to attend speech therapy classes through Down Syndrome Ireland and her speech has improved so much over the years.

Support for Ice Cream Fundays
Over the years Evie and her family have raised money hosting Ice Cream Fundays parties, with Melissah adding, ‘the funds raised are so important as the money supports people with Down syndrome in areas such as speech therapy classes, occupational therapies, social activities and more. We hope you can all take part this year and have some fun raising much needed funds for Down Syndrome Ireland’.
Evie joined actress Alisha Weir to launch this year’s Ice Cream Fundays!
