Paul Scanlon was voted by his peers as the newest Down Syndrome International ambassador representing Ireland.

There were nine candidates: Una Coates, Ellen O’Donoghue, Paul Scanlan, Sinéad Friel, Niamh Gorey, Eleanor Murray, Dúalta Callan, Amy Richardson, and Fionn Crombie Angus. Members of the National Advisory Council (NAC), Regional Advisory Councils (RACs) and former members of both councils were eligible to be up for election. The election took place in December, with NAC, RACs and former council members voting. It was an extremely competitive election with Paul coming out on top as the successful candidate.

Paul began his role today on January 14th, with his first meeting with Down Syndrome International. He met the other ambassadors from around the world, all who are new to their new positions also.

Paul is taking over from Eileen Dunne, from Cavan, who has represented Ireland for Down Syndrome International for the last few years. Eileen was a brilliant representative and did Down Syndrome Ireland and the members so proud.

Paul, who is from Kerry, is an active member of the Kerry RAC. He is undergoing a cookery course, Kookability, with MTU in Tralee. Paul also works in Lizzy’s Little Kitchen in Listowel.

We wish Paul the very best of luck in his new role.
