Down Syndrome Ireland is delighted to announce that it has received €160,665 from the Woodie’s Heroes campaign.

The 12th annual Woodie’s Heroes fundraiser raised a total of €642,662 for four Irish children’s charities; Down Syndrome Ireland, Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland, Cancer Fund for Children and Childline by ISPCC. 100% of all funds raised during this year’s fundraiser will be divided equally among the chosen charities to support their vital work. “For over a decade, Woodie’s Heroes has brought together our colleagues, customers and suppliers to support children, young people and families facing some of life’s toughest challenges. Every year we are inspired by the incredible resilience shown by the families and organisations involved,” said Damien Dwyer, CEO of Woodie’s.

Thanks to the Woodie’s Heroes Campaign, Down Syndrome Ireland can continue to deliver essential Early Years services to our members. During this stage, children begin building skills in movement, communication, learning, play, social interaction, and independence. These early experiences shape the foundation for future learning. Early intervention goes beyond therapy sessions. While individual support is important, it also focuses on integrating learning and skill-building into everyday routines at home, preschool, and other familiar environments. The goal is to create natural opportunities for children to develop and grow through daily experiences. At Down Syndrome Ireland, we provide a network of early intervention supports for families of children from birth through to primary school age.

Down Syndrome Ireland’s ambassador for 2026 was the amazing Maisie! Six-year-old Maisie Flanagan, member of the Dublin branch of Down Syndrome Ireland, is full of energy. She loves music, dancing, playing with her dolls and spending time outdoors.

Born with a hole in her heart, Maisie faced challenges from an early age. With the support of her family and specialist Early Years services, however, she has continued to thrive. From infancy, Down Syndrome Ireland has been there to support Maisie and her parents through therapies, services, practical guidance and a welcoming network of families who understand the journey they are on.

Maisie’s Mum Emer says, “You could really see Maisie’s development happening over time. It’s not even just for Maisie – it’s for us as parents too. Being able to talk to other families, share experiences and learn from one another has been so important. They’ve always been there for us and we’ve built such a strong connection with everyone involved.”

Thank you Woodie’s!
