Advocacy & Support
Our advocacy department supports branches and families across the country with their inquiries, providing relevant information, and acting as a key point of contact and resource for those seeking assistance.
It also involves engaging with stakeholders across various sectors on advocacy-related matters and contributing to consultation pieces with policymakers.
If you have a specific question about advocacy support, please fill out our support form and we will contact you to discuss next steps.

Long-Term Illness (LTI) Scheme
If your child or family member with Down syndrome is on long-term medication or requires ongoing medical equipment, it’s really important to know about the Long-Term Illness Card.
This card is not means tested, it’s based on medical need, not income. Even if you already have a Medical Card or GP Visit Card, you can still apply.
Once approved, it covers the cost of medications and treatments related to the condition for life. Your GP simply needs to complete their section of the form outlining the medications and supports required.
Too many families are missing out on this support. If your child has additional health needs linked to Down syndrome (Intellectual Disability on the form), it’s absolutely worth applying.
A simple step that can make a long-term difference.
Benefits and Entitlements
