Unlocking Potential through Education

People with Down syndrome have dreams, goals, and aspirations just like everyone else. This October, Down Syndrome Ireland is focusing on the crucial importance of Adult Education. We aim to showcase the tremendous potential unlocked when we commit to accessible and inclusive education.

Leaving secondary school often marks the onset of adulthood, bringing exciting adventures and new challenges. People with Down syndrome and their families wonder about the options available in further and higher education and what courses are on offer.

Research demonstrates that providing opportunities for adults with intellectual disabilities to expand their education leads to continuous skill development. It equips them to reach their full potential and attain the highest degree of independence possible.

Adult Education Opportunities

At Down Syndrome Ireland, we collaborate with Education and Training Boards (ETBs) and various educational institutions to provide courses and training in adult literacy, numeracy, digital skills, and more. We also offer guidance on pathways to further education. Find out more at THIS LINK.

Our commitment to adult and further education has yielded remarkable results. Many of our members who participate in Adult and Further Education courses have successfully entered the workforce and are continuing to build on their skills and experience in a range of industries.
