What we do internationally

Down Syndrome Ireland is very involved in the international movement for the benefit of people with Down syndrome across the world.

As an organisation, we were founding members of Down Syndrome International (DSI) and The European Down Syndrome Association.

Down Syndrome Ireland, through our representatives, has been very involved in both of these important international organisations and has participated in a number of important international projects including the development of a post-graduate education programme for adults with Down syndrome on living and political participation called My Opinion My Vote and the development of easy-to-read tourist guides for Dublin, Rome and Lisbon called Smart Tourism.

Adults with Down syndrome from Ireland have also participated in youth exchange programmes in Rome, Madrid and Spain.

We were part of the international Down syndrome community which campaigned heavily for the United Nations to recognise World Down Syndrome Day on March 21st, a day that gives us the opportunity to really celebrate our community.
