DSI Meets with New Ministers

We were delighted to have a preliminary meeting with the new Minister for Children, Disability, Equality and Integration Roderic O’Gorman and the Minister of State with responsibility for Disability Anne Rabbitte to lobby for increased resources to improve the lives of children and adults with Down syndrome and their families across Ireland.

During the meeting, Ministers O’Gorman and Rabbitte outlined their commitment to the implementation of the UNCRPD.

“Ireland has now signed the UNCRPD and this commitment to a rights-based approach to supporting people with disabilities now needs to become a reality. The new Department plans to work towards this and to lay the foundations of a holistic approach to disability.”

The meeting was a positive and productive one and we thank the Ministers and their officials within the Department for listening. We look forward to continuing to work with them to bring about the changes necessary to fully support children and adults with Down syndrome to reach their full potential and lead the lives they want.
