Irish rugby millennials Dan Leavy, Rory Scannell and Rory O’Loughlin and TV3 Xposé reporter Remy Naidoo were on hand to launch Ireland’s newest national fundraising campaign called Millennial of the Year as the country’s top 100 millennials fundraise over €100,000 in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland.

Ireland’s newest national fundraising campaign is called Millennial of the Year and it involves the country’s top 100 millennials aiming to fundraise over €100,000 in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland.
The inaugural fundraising competition, proudly supported by Irish Life, was founded in 2018 by Cork man Daniel Hinds and a committee of 13 young graduates (including Dublin GAA’s Paul Mannion) from Accenture, PwC, Intercom, Google, Microsoft, Bank of Ireland, GradLife and xSellco who simultaneously declared one principle for the money being raised; it helps change the lives of their fellow millennials for the better.
Today in Ireland, less than 5% of people with Down syndrome are employed full time. For this reason, the committee decided the 2018 MOTY competition will make the change by fundraising €100,000 to help fund Down Syndrome Ireland’s national Ability Programme which aims to provide millennials with Down syndrome access to meaningful employment opportunities.
Each participant is challenged to raise €1,000 over the next four months while their endeavors are judged and awarded by a panel of 10 high-profile Irish figures. They will be judged under 5 different categories: ‘Most Money Fundraised’; ‘Fastest to €1,000’; ‘Most Awareness Raised’; ‘Most Innovative Event’; ‘Best Online Presence’.
The Millennial of the Year winner will be the competitor who excels in all 5 of the different categories.
The judging panel includes the CEO of Down Syndrome Ireland Gary Owens, Minister of State with Responsibilities for Disability Issues Finian McGrath TD, Irish Rugby players Rory Scannell & Dan Leavy, Radio Presenter Conall O’Morain and RTE’s Shay Byrne among others.
All participating fundraisers will be guests at an exclusive closing ceremony – The Millennial Ball – taking place in the Mansion House on November 24, 2018.
