General Election 2020 – here is Down Syndrome Ireland’s election manifesto

Election 2020 will take place on February 8th.

We will go to the polls to cast our votes and determine the make-up of Ireland’s next Government.

Candidates, if elected, will have the power to shape the future of Ireland. Let’s make it a future where all people are valued, fully participating citizens.  We call on candidates to commit to improve the lives of people with Down syndrome and their families.

You can read our 2020 General Election Manifesto 2020.

We encourage everyone who was eligible to use their vote. Inclusion Ireland’s easy-read guide to voting for people with intellectual disabilities has some useful tips and advice.

Our members are looking for the same things as everyone else: equality, inclusion and the ability to live their life on their own terms, with decent access to state services such as health and education where and when they need them. These are human rights. We signed up to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with a Disabilities, now is the time for our next Government to step up and ensure resources are there for its implementation.

A brighter future needs action now.

Join our campaign by following us on Facebook and on Twitter using #DisabilityVotesCount and tag your local candidate – you can find your local candidate and their social media contact information, with our full election running list.

We also urge you to discuss our manifesto with your local candidates when they canvas in your area.
