We recently welcomed over 80 parents and teachers to our Education Seminars for Preschool and Primary school children and also to the DSI Transition to Second Level Conference in Galway.

The feedback from the attendees was excellent so we trust that parents and teachers are better informed regarding their child’s continued education.

During the Preschool seminar, Eimear Collins, DSI Early Intervention Officer and Fidelma Brady, DSI Education Officer presented to parents about the AIMs process, supporting your child in preschool and transitioning to primary school as well as addressing questions from parents.

Two individual seminars for both teachers and parents on Supporting you Child in Primary School prompted lots of questions from parents and teachers.

The full-day conference on Transitioning to Second Level where both Fidelma Brady and Nicola Hart, DSI Speech and Language Therapist addressed many areas including Choosing a School, Subject Choice, the Junior Cert Curriculum, Resources, SENO’s, Speech and Language, Vision and Hearing, Expectations and Behaviour. There was plenty of discussion on parents’ experiences. In addition, there was an insightful presentation by a parent whose child transitioned to second level last September.

Education Officer Fidelma Brady was also very busy during the school day, meeting with teachers and school staff regarding the provision of support and advice to individual schools across Galway city and county. She managed to visit a total of 13 primary schools supporting a total of 19 children during her week in Galway.
