Submission to the ISSU

In response to a recent request for information for the ISSU, Down Syndrome Ireland surveyed parents of members in the Post Primary (Second level) age range to ascertain the issues for their son or daughter.

Although we received just a small number of responses to the survey, we did gain valuable information and insights into issues for students with Down syndrome. The issues highlighted were both Covid and non- Covid related. We would like to sincerely thank the parents who submitted responses to us.

The research has found that academic progress and achievements were better for those children with Down Syndrome in mainstream school, as opposed to those children educated in special school settings – to find out more about the research, please read the full submission document.
